Jambo Claudia: Meet our Next Tanzanian Kili Climber

December 22, 2016 Allison & Danielle

WHOA Travel is so pleased to welcome Claudio Shio on our 2016 New Years Eve Kilimanjaro Adventure! We’re so excited to have such a driven, diverse and inspiring group coming together to reach the summit. Sharing this epic journey with such an international group is one of the many things that makes WHOA Kilimanjaro climbs extra special! Get to know more about this awesome woman here:

Humble, gracious, beautiful and poised, Claudia, 21, is a Tanzanian born woman currently living in Milicitia, a town just outside of Moshi. She is studying tourism with a focus on safari guiding, and plans to continue expanding her career by taking courses in driving next year. Claudia is a woman on the move! In addition to going to school, she has been working as a secretary in travel to help more people experience Kilimanjaro and safaris in her homeland! Her dream job is to be a safari guide and someday have a travel company of her own.

Claudia shares gratitude and excitement for this opportunity to trek Kilimanjaro with WHOA travel, just as we do. Though she's never experienced cold mountainous temperatures, she is excited and determined. With every opportunity that comes her way, she is full on and will do her best to make it to the top of Kilimanjaro to stand on Uhuru Peak. We share her excitement, support her adventurous spirit, and will be there to celebrate her accomplishments!

Some fun facts about Claudia!

  • Family fact: She is 1 of 5 children, a big family! Though her mother is no longer with us, her father and siblings remain close and supportive.

  • Favorite food: Samaki wali and Mchicha. Fish served with rice and greens with oil, onions, and fresh tomatoes.

  • Biggest adventure: Safari to Ngorongoro Crater.  "I loved seeing the euphorbia candelabra, a HUGE succulent that has potent poisonous milky liquid inside its branches." She also enjoyed seeing the various animals in the crater like zebras, hippos and a pride of lions, with males and females.

  • Dream Adventure: To travel to any country outside of Tanzania, but really wants to visit the USA.
