ANTARCTICA

WOMEN'S DAY EXPEDITION

FEBRUARY 28 - MARCH 10, 2027

There’s nowhere else on Earth that feels this wild, this quiet, and this alive. Kayak between towering icebergs, watch penguins belly-slide across the snow, take an exhilarating polar plunge, and feel the thunder of glaciers calving as you kayak around icebergs. And while the landscapes will take your breath away, what stays with you long after you leave is the women standing beside you when it happens. Designed for adventurous women who want to experience the magic of the polar world together, this Women’s Day expedition invites you into Antarctica for unforgettable wildlife encounters and the kind of sisterhood that only forms when you’ve braved the Drake Passage and stood in awe at the edge of the world together!

WHY WHOA

MAKING ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME THAT MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL

As usual, we searched to the ends of the Earth (literally) to find the most extraordinary partners in small ship Antarctic Exploration. Polar Latitudes is a founder-owned and run company that, like WHOA, prides itself in creating a boutique experience that’s about bringing passionate people together with a focus on adventure and eco-friendly exploration. This voyage provides you with the comfort of a world-class Ice Class 1A ship, while taking you outside of your comfort zone with an abundance of adventure activities! What does that mean? More opportunities for landings, experiences like kayaking, and more ways to take in the natural beauty.

WHOA’s inaugural Antarctic voyage with Polar Latitudes in 2023, brought 44 women from 5 different countries together for an experience that we’re all still talking about. In 2027, we’re bringing back that magic with another group voyage that falls over a day very near and dear to our hearts, March 8th, International Women’s Day. For over a decade, WHOA has been summiting Mount Kilimanjaro on Women’s Day as a symbolic gesture of the power of women coming together, and now we’re taking it to a new level by bringing a group of women to the ends of the world in Antarctica. This expedition will be female-led and full of the WHOA camaraderie that makes our signature hiking adventures so special.

VOYAGE MAP

One of the most exhilarating and humbling parts of an Antarctic expedition is that each one is unique! Once we set sail for the Antarctic Peninsula, the exact route and landing sites are guided by weather, wildlife, and ever-changing ice conditions. This map highlights a few of the destinations often visited on expeditions like ours, offering a glimpse of what may be possible along the way. In Antarctica, we let Mother Nature lead the adventure, and flexibility is part of the magic!

DAILY BREAKDOWN

DAY 1

ARRIVE AND EXPLORE USHUAIA
February 28

The voyage begins in Ushuaia, where we’ll meet you at the airport with a transfer to our partner hotel (usually Las Hayas or Arakur Ushuaia Resort & Spa) where you’ll have time to unwind and explore the southernmost city in the world.

DAY 2

ALL ABOARD
March 1

In the afternoon, we’ll board the Ocean Albatros, our home for the next 9 nights! You’ll have the chance to get settled in, followed by a safety and orientation briefing and our Captain’s Welcome Dinner. We’re officially on our way to Antarctica!

DAY 3-4

DRAKE PASSAGE
March 2-3

The Drake Passage, the stretch of ocean between South America and Antarctica, is the infamous gateway to the White Continent. As we cross these legendary waters, our Polar Experts share insights into Antarctica’s wildlife, history, and ongoing research, with opportunities to participate in hands-on Citizen Science along the way. Keep your binoculars ready as seabirds escort the ship across the Antarctic Convergence and into the colder waters of the south.

DAY 5

SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS
March 4

Shaped by volcanic activity, the South Shetland Islands offer a dramatic landscape of rugged mountains, glaciers, and thriving wildlife. Here we often encounter Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins, Elephant and Fur seals along the shoreline, and whales cruising nearby. By Zodiac or kayak, this is our first immersive taste of Antarctica’s wild and unforgettable coastal world.

DAY 6-8

GLORIOUS ANTARCTICA
March 5-7

Our focus in Antarctica is always on maximizing time off the ship, with longer landings and immersive daily excursions that bring us deep into the continent’s wild landscapes. We’ll navigate iceberg-filled channels, explore scenic bays and historic landing sites, and watch for penguins, seals, and whales along the rugged coastlines. With two outings most days, optional visits to active research stations, each day is designed to fully experience this extraordinary corner of the planet.

DAY 9-10

DRAKE PASSAGE
March 8-9

We head north, hearts full, crossing the legendary Drake Passage where we celebrate Women’s Day together at sea. One last celebration, and the perfect send-off to an expedition that changed us and brought us together in all the right ways.

DAY 11

DISEMBARK IN USHUAIA
March 10

In the morning, we’ll step off the ship with new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. From there, you can catch a flight to Buenos Aires or linger a little longer in Ushuaia and keep the adventure going.

THE OCEAN ALBATROS

Beneath the sleek exterior of the Ocean Albatros is decades of experience navigating the demanding Polar environment. Its patented, ice-conquering X-Bow delivers exceptional stability and comfort, even in rough seas, while its Ice Class 1A and Polar Class 6 ratings allow access to deeper ice and more remote corners of Antarctica. Onboard, spacious cabins, panoramic views, two hot tubs with sweeping 360° vistas, and a large heated mudroom with four exterior doors make zodiac boarding quick, safe, and seamless, so every moment on and off the ship is designed to maximize your time in this extraordinary place!

The Ocean Albatros keeps the Polar world front and center from the moment you wake up to lights out. The staterooms offer expansive views, most with private balconies, and multiple observation decks flow easily from indoor spaces. Two hydraulic platforms lower to near water level for rare photography opportunities, and even the outdoor Jacuzzis deliver sweeping 360° views of the landscape around you! Powered by a hybrid system of diesel and electro engines that optimize speed and fuel efficiency, the ship reduces its carbon footprint by up to 50% compared to traditional expedition vessels. Through its Green Initiative Program, comfort and sustainability work hand in hand, ensuring a lighter footprint without compromising the experience.

ACTIVITIES

When you’re in Antarctica with WHOA, adventure is woven into every single day. From kayaking past towering icebergs to polar plunging into the icy cold waters, these immersive experiences take you beyond the ship and into the wild in the most unforgettable way. Because kayaking requires specialized guides, permits, and gear, it is offered at an additional cost ($), but if you’ve come this far, you might as well go all in!

KAYAKING

To experience Antarctica up close and personal, there’s no better seat than in a kayak, just inches above the water, navigating among icebergs and glacial ice dating back 30,000 years. Gliding through an otherworldly landscape with a small team, led by our expert guides, and occasionally joined by a family of playful penguins or seals, is about as intimate and magical as it gets!

$

HIKING

A day hiking in Antarctica means you are wandering where few have gone before. There are no set trails for hiking (unless you count the ‘penguin highways’), just rocky or snowy terrain for you to explore. You’ll have the chance to hike to high vantage points to take in the incredible views, or hike along the shore. No matter what your preference, exploring on foot is one of the best ways to experience these amazing areas.

POLAR PLUNGE

A true Antarctic rite of passage: the legendary polar plunge! It’s equal parts shock, laughter, and bragging rights for life. It’s cold, it’s wild, and you’ll feel more alive than ever!

PHOTOGRAPHY

Whatever your experience level or camera of choice, our award-winning photography coaches will help you capture the raw beauty and magic of Antarctica. On every voyage, a dedicated coach offers guidance tailored to you, whether you’re shooting on a phone or a professional camera. And because Antarctica’s light, weather, and reflective ice shift quickly, you’ll learn how to navigate its uniquely challenging conditions with confidence.

CITIZEN SCIENCE

Polar Latitudes was the first Antarctic operator to officially partner with The Polar Citizen Science Collective, bringing hands-on science to every voyage. Together, we support real research projects like phytoplankton data collection for Scripps and cloud observations for NASA, giving every passenger the chance to contribute to meaningful climate and ecosystem research. In a place as remote as Antarctica, this ongoing support is invaluable to long-term scientific teams who simply can’t be there year-round on their own.
