KAROLE L

“There’s so many things that we don’t have to worry about on this trip, and that’s super helpful. Being with the WHOA plus group, some of us are fighting some huge body anxieties, so to not have to deal with transportation, food, or any form of reservation, is lovely…I hope you folks realize how life changing offering adventures to women in bigger bodies is. It’s done more than just give me a cool vacation."

DAY 1
Bienvenida

Quito

Arrive at the Quito Airport (UIO)* where a WHOA rep will be there to give you a warm welcome and take you to our hotel. You're coming into a higher altitude than you’re probably used to (2,850 m), so even though we won’t be here for long, take it easy! At night, we’ll all meet for an authentic Ecuadorian meal and have a briefing with our guides about the Galápagos adventure ahead!

Included: Bienvenida Dinner
Stay:

*Please arrive by 2:00 PM this day. We also recommend coming in a day early, if possible, in case of any flight interruptions. We’ll share our partner hotel when the trip gets closer so you can book early arrival accommodation.

DAY 2
Sea you in
San Crist

Quito to Isla de San Cristóbal
LEARN TO MAKE CEVICHE
+ KAYAK ALONG SAN CRISTÓBAL BEACH

This morning we'll leave Quito to fly to Galápagos! Our first stop is the island of San Cristóbal, where we’ll kick off the day with a ceviche cooking class. This experience is an amazing way to get to know the local and fresh produce of the Galápagos Islands and meet THE local expert, Mrs. Barbara! She used to sell her special ceviche in town from her food cart, and it was so beloved, she started offering classes on how to make her famous ceviche. After our delicious homemade lunch, we’ll surround ourselves in the riches of nature, with a short hike and kayak experience on San Cristóbal Beach. As soon as our oars hit the water, we’ll be surrounded by wildlife. Blue-footed boobies, frigates, pelicans, sea lions and sea turtles will accompany us on our kayak voyage along the coast of San Cristóbal. In the evening we’ll have a special Galápagos Welcome Dinner (the first WHOA adventure to have TWO welcome dinners)!

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Galápagos Welcome Dinner

DAY 3
Just Dive In

Isla de San Cristóbal
SNORKEL AROUND KICKER ROCK

Boat Time: 2 hours

Today we’ll board our boat and head to Kicker Rock, one of Galápagos’ most iconic spots! We’ll get the chance to unleash our inner mermaids and snorkel around this incredible rock formation in the middle of the sea, which is a favorite abode for an array of marine birds and underwater life. The natural erosion of this ancient cone has created a channel between the rocks that provides the ideal habitat for a variety of sharks, manta rays, and many other aquatic wildlife. In the afternoon, we’ll return to our hotel, and you’ll have the evening free to explore and hit the town for dinner.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 4
Shell of a
Good Time

Isla de San Cristóbal to Isla Santa Cruz
EXPLORE THE SANTA CRUZ HIGHLANDS

Boat Time: 2 hours

This morning we’ll take a 2 hour speedboat to our next island, Santa Cruz. After settling into our hotel in Puerto Ayora, we’ll head to the highlands of Santa Cruz to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat and participate in a reforestation project on the tortoise reserve. We’ll have lunch there, and learn more about the unique biodiversity of the highland region and also have the opportunity to explore the Santa Cruz lava tunnels! On the way back to our hotel, we’ll stop by a local family farm where we’ll learn the ancestral method of extracting sugar cane juice. The evening will be yours to relax and explore this beautiful island!

Included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 5
Life’s a Beach

Isla Santa Cruz to Isla Isabela
SURF TORTUGA BAY

Boat Time: 2.5 hours

The white sand and pristine turquoise waters of Tortuga Bay are unparalleled and a must see while in Galápagos! While here, we’ll have the chance to watch the famous marine iguanas regulating their temperature on the rocks and sand, before getting a surf lesson! If surfing isn’t your jam, you can snorkel or enjoy some R&R on one of the world’s most pristine beaches. In the afternoon, we’ll take a speedboat to the island of Isabela where we’ll check in to our boutique hotel right on the beach to enjoy an epic sunset and evening cocktails.

Included: Breakfast & Evening Cocktails

DAY 6

We Lava to Hike

Isla Isabela
HIKE SIERRA NEGRA VOLCANO
+ CAMP ON TORTOISE RESERVE

Hiking Distance: 6 km

Today we’ll head to the Sierra Negra Volcano and hike a 6 km loop along the Western Rim going downhill to reach the bottom of the giant caldera. This amazing trek will lead you across an old lava field as the incredible landscape shows off bright colors—this is a beautiful and impressive hike that few get to experience! After our morning trek we’ll make our way to Campo Duro to have a BBQ lunch. Camp Duro is a tortoise reserve located in the foothills of the Sierra Negra volcano, you know, the one that we just got to hike! It also serves as a campsite, owned and operated by Isabela Island locals who are committed to eco-tourism and conservation. This special part of the island offers a unique experience where we can stay in harmony with the giant tortoises of Galápagos. At dinner we’ll enjoy a delicious meal together under the stars.

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

In the afternoon, we will experience one of the best snorkeling locations in the world, Los Túneles, or The Tunnels. This is a series of lava flows that have produced unique geological formations, arcs and tunnels underneath and above the water which have created a sea sanctuary for local Galápagos species. The water is shallow, calm, and very clear, allowing you to see it all! You’ll have the evening free to explore and dine on some of the fresh seafood Isabela is known for!

Included: Breakfast, Lunch

**
It’s of the utmost importance to us that any giving back we do is sustainable and fills a need that is of value to our partners. For that reason, our visits and partnerships can and do vary depending on the season, the organization's needs, and the abilities and desires of our group. Bottom line, in each case, we do our best to seek out local partners that are doing great, sustainable work, and we work closely with them to understand their needs to create an experience that will truly be of value to them and you!
