Back by popular demand, we're revisiting our first ever WHOAx Expedition - Mount Elbrus! Located in Russia between the Black and Caspian Seas, Mount Elbrus is a dormant volcano in the Caucasus Mountain range that separates Europe from Asia. Its snowy peaks and slopes are begging to be explored (and danced on)! Awesome barrel huts will be our home and base camp for the week, as we acclimatize and prep for our summit attempt. Needless to say, as one of the seven summits, this epic adventure is perfect for summit seekers who are ready to take it to the next level!

Once again, we're honored to be partnering with our long time friends Life in Motion, a non-profit organization with roots in Russia that is dedicated to making the future brighter for orphans and children with disabilities around the world. Polina, who joined us in 2017, will be with us again helping to lead the charge and to achieve her goal of reaching the summit. Last time she made it to 5,100 meters, but now, she's going back for 5,642 meters!

This WHOAx Expedition is SOLD OUT, but the waitlist is open! To sign up for this epic WHOAx Expedition, please fill out the form below, and, when a spot becomes available, a WHOA rep will reach out to talk more about your adventure experience and next steps for completing your booking! Due to the intensity of this trek, we strongly recommend that all of our Elbrus adventurers have successfully completed a high altitude/multi-day trek before signing up (comparable to 4,600m/4 days). This is for the safety and well-being of you and the entire group. If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out at adventure@whoatravel.com or +1 347.873.0404.

DAY 1 //  JULY 19

dobro pozhalovat'

Plan to meet up with the rest of the Expedition crew at Mineralnye Vody Airport by noon (the best connections to MRV are through Moscow or St. Petersburg). Once we're all together, we'll drive 4 hours to our Baksan Valley (2,100 m) mountain lodge that's in the shadows of Elbrus. In the evening we'll have a delicious Russian WHOA welcome feast at our hotel and get briefed on the adventure that lies ahead!
Included: welcome dinner

DAY 2 // JULY 20

We'll wake up and fuel up with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before setting off for a beautiful acclimatization hike on Cheget Mountain (3,450 m). Afterwards, we'll go back to our hotel to make sure all our gear is ready and to rest up for tomorrow.
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 3  // JULY 21

After a hearty breakfast and one last warm shower (for a few days anyway), we'll head off to our new mountain home! We'll get to the barrel huts (3,800 m) via chairlift ride that comes complete with fresh mountain air and amazing views. Once we're settled in at the barrels, we'll take a short acclimatization hike to explore our new surroundings. In the evening, we'll return to our base camp for dinner and some R&R.
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 4  //  JULY 22

In the morning we'll strap on our double boots and take a steep acclimatization hike to the Pastuckhov Rocks (4,700 m). We do all these prep hikes because hiking high and sleeping low is an important part of a safe high altitude summit attempt! We'll have the rest of the afternoon to relax and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Caucasus Mountains.
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 5  //  JULY 23

Today we'll be learning new snow\ice\rope\self-belay techniques that will come in handy for our upcoming summit attempt. No previous experience is needed - we'll be covering all the basics! Most of all, it's important that we take it easy today and get a good nights sleep in the barrels, because tomorrow is the big day we've been preparing for...
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 6  //  JULY 24

We'll have an early wake up call (around 2 am) for breakfast, and begin our journey to the highest peak in Europe! We'll be taking a snowcat (RAWR!) up to the Pastuckhov rocks (4,750 m) where we'll begin our summit attempt. From our starting point, it will take around 7 hours to reach the summit (5,642 m) where we'll see the beautiful morning sun over the Caucasus! It will take us approximately 3 hours to get back to the barrels for some much deserved rest.
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 7  //  JULY 25

This is our reserve day, so in case of bad weather on the 24th, we have a day set aside for another summit attempt. If we were blessed by the weather gods the day before and reached the summit, we'll use this day to descend back down to our lodge in the Baksan Valley.
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

DAY 8 //  JULY 26

The day is yours to explore!  You can visit mineral springs, do a short hike, or shop for handicrafts around the charming mountain villages in the valley. If we had to use our reserve day, we'll use the first part of the day to descend back down to the Baksan Valley. Either way, in the evening we'll share one last Russian feast together and toast (Zazdarovje!) to a successful expedition!
Included: breakfast, celebratory dinner

DAY 9 // JULY 27

 Do svidaniya!

Time to say poka (see you later!) and ride back to Mineralnye Vody airport to head home...or off for more adventure!
Included: breakfast
