THE BREAKDOWN

NOV 1 // DELHI  // NAMASTE

Arrive to Delhi International Airport (DEL), where we’ll be there to give you a warm welcome. Women on Wheels, an amazing local organization that promotes self-empowerment by training and employing Indian women to be professional drivers, will take you to our hotel to rest up after your flight. In the evening, the adventure begins! You’ll get your first real taste of India when we zoom by tuk tuk to our Welcome dinner where you’ll meet the group and enjoy an authentic North Indian meal.

NOV 2 // DELHI // OLD AND NEW

In the morning we’ll take a special stroll through the city with a young local guide from the New Delhi Streetkids Project. As a former street child, they’ll offer a unique perspective of the city and what it is like growing up in India. Better yet? This walking tour helps support the guide's education and university tuition! Later, we’ll continue exploring this historic city with visits to the famous Great Mosque of Jama Masjid, a walk through Chandni Chowk, one of India's oldest and busiest markets (be sure to try a parantha), and learn the history of the Sikh religion at the important Sikh Gurduwara SisGanj. In the evening, we’ll get to experience travel like a local on an overnight train! So sit back, take it all in, and get some well-earned (and likely much-needed) rest en route to our next stop: Jodphur.

NOV 3 // JODHPUR // TRUE BLUE
 

After arriving in Jodhpur via train and settling in, we’ll take a short climb to the Mehrangarh Fort set atop a hill on the outskirts of the city and get a sense of what it was like to be Rajasthani royalty. We’ll have the afternoon and evening free to wander around the bright blue painted houses of the Old City and Sadar Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in India that’s known for its handicrafts and gorgeous antiques.

NOV 4 // JODHPUR TO UDAIPUR // WATER WATER EVERYWHERE

Today we’ll make our way to Udaipur, the city of lakes. En route we’ll stop in Ranakpur at a mesmerizing Jain temple made up of 1,444 intricately hand carved marble pillars - it’s truly a sight to behold! Once in Udaipur, we’ll go on a guided walk through the local markets to Lake Pichola to give you the lay of the land. In the evening, we’ll be treated to a Rajasthani Cultural show at the Bagore-ki-Haveli, a private mansion and museum on the waterfront at Gangaur Ghat.

NOV 5 // UDAIPUR // LET’S GET COOKIN’    

After breakfast, we’ll take a guided visit to the City Palace, Rajasthan's largest palace overlooking stunning Lake Pichola, and the intricately-carved Jagdish Temple which pays homage to Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore and make the most of this beautiful city. In the evening, we’ll get a taste of Udaipur’s cuisine by visiting a local family for a cooking class. After the cooking demo we’ll sit down together and enjoy the delicious dishes we made!

NOV 6 // UDAIPUR TO JOJAWAR // OFF THE BEATEN PATH WE GO...

Now’s the time in our journey where we leave the bustling cities for rural Rajasthan at its best! Jojawar is a small, charming village, undiscovered by most travellers. We’ll explore this small village by foot and experience first hand what life is like for the people in this part of rural India. You’ll have the afternoon and evening free, to join an impromptu game of cricket with the local children or travel by a vintage car or train safari through the surrounding hills. In the evening, we’ll host a sunset yoga class on the roof under the golden desert sky!

NOV 7 // JOJAWAR TO PUSHKAR // IT’S HUMP DAY...WELL, KINDA

We’ll hit the road after breakfast to Pushkar, home to one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. We’ll take a walk together to get oriented and visit the sacred 14th-century Brahma Temple, the world’s only temple dedicated to the Hindu god of creation, which draws pilgrims from all over India and around the world. In the evening, we’ll saddle up for a sunset camel ride over the dunes.

NOV 8 // PUSHKAR TO JAIPUR // LET’S MOVE IT, MOVE IT!

We’ll wake up bright and early to take a sunrise hike up to the Savitri Temple, which honors the wife of the Hindu god, Brahma. We’ll meet the local monkeys and enjoy a warm cup of chai and amazing views of Pushkar below. After that we’ll head to Jaipur, aka the pink city, and the former capital of a princely state of the same name. In the evening, get ready to move it, move it in a Bollywood dance class! We’ll learn this popular local style that combines Hindi music, contemporary dance and traditional gestures to create expressive and fun dances.

NOV 9 // JAIPUR // TICKLED PINK
 

Today we’ll stop by the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, and be guided through the historic Amber Fort. In the afternoon, you’ll have the free time to explore. If you want culture, you can head to the village of Sanganer to see blue pottery, handmade paper, and block printing being done, or visit the Jantar Mantar, an observatory built in the 1700s. If you want to relax, you can sip a cocktail in a luxuriously converted palaces, or check out a Bollywood film in the Raj Mandir Cinema, a spectacular Art Deco film house. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore and make the most of!

NOV 10 // JAIPUR TO RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK // THERE'S SO MUCH MORE TO RANTHAMBORE   

Today we’ll make our way to Ranthambore National Park, which was once the private hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Jaipur. In the afternoon, we’ll walk through the ruins of the old fort and take in views of the park and a beautiful sunset before enjoying dinner together at our Heritage Hotel.

NOV 11 // RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK // I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!

In the morning, we’ll enjoy a safari through Ranthambore National Park, one of the original Project Tiger Reserves. We’ll see lakes, scrublands, and ruined palaces, as well as abundant wildlife including deer, birds, monkeys...and if we’re lucky, one of the resident tigers! You’ll have the afternoon free to relax and enjoy a sunset yoga class before dinner.

NOV 12 // RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK TO AGRA // MEET INDIA’S SHEROES

Today we’ll head to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal. En route we’ll stop in Abhaneri to visit the Chand Baori stepwell, an amazing and unique tenth century water tank invented by Indians for harvesting rainwater, and learn about ancient Indian environmentalism. In the evening, we’ll have dinner at Sheroes Hangout, a small cafe that is making a big difference. The restaurant is run by acid attack survivors, who we’ll get the chance to speak with and hear their inspiring stories about their fight to Stop Acid Attacks against women in India and around the world.

NOV 13 // AGRA TO DELHI // THE TAJ!

Today we’ll take in India’s most famous landmark, the Taj Mahal, and learn about the gorgeous mausoleum that was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a testament of his love for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. We’ll start out before sunrise, so we get to see this white marble masterpiece in the best golden light. After breakfast, we’ll head back for our last stop (tear!) in Delhi, where you’ll have the rest of the evening free to explore. You’ll have the option to be dropped directly at Delhi airport to take a late night flight (anything departing after 10PM), or you can stay overnight in Delhi (this night is included!) or head on to the next stop on your journey!

NOV 14 // DELHI // IT’S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE  

You’ll have the morning free in Delhi, and can depart anytime throughout the day with what we hope is a heart full of memories and new friendships!
