THE BREAKDOWN

As with all WHOA adventures, one day will be dedicated to a giving back project.  For the Costa Rica adventure we partner with the Osa Wildlife Refuge. Please note that activities and excursions are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances -- they don't call it an adventure for nothing! Let's escape together!

DAY 1 // SATURDAY // JANUARY 14

Bienvenida! Once you arrive at the Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica, you’ll be greeted by our drivers, and we’ll go together to our boutique partner hotel in San Jose. You’ll have the afternoon and evening free to venture out into this vibrant capital city.

DAY 2 // SUNDAY // JANUARY 15

Bright and early in the morning we'll take our domestic flight to the small town of Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula where we'll be welcomed by Martine, our WHOA Group Adventure Leader (GAL). We’ll make a quick stop at a local grocery store to pick up last minute items before taking our four-wheel transport through the rainforest to Laguna Vista Villas on Carate Beach. When we arrive at the lodge there’ll be a short welcome orientation, but you'll have the afternoon free to unpack, check out the beach and enjoy your new home away from home! In the evening, we’ll wind down with a sunset yoga class and have our welcome dinner.
Approx 2.5 hours transit
Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 3 // MONDAY // JANUARY 16

After breakfast, we'll take a trek through the neighborhood and discover all of the indigenous fruits, flowers, and wildlife. You’ll be able to try everything from juicy star fruits to the intriguing and sweet miracle fruits. After the morning hike we will head back to Laguna Vista for a delicious lunch and relaxation time. After lunch, enjoy free time at the beach or lounge around the property and enjoy the salt-filtered pool. Around 4pm, we will be heading out on a breathtaking kayak tour of the surrounding lagoon for a sunset paddle. The lagoon is home to many species of aquatic birds and amphibians as well as american crocodiles and caymans!
Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner + kayak excursion

DAY 4 // TUESDAY // JANUARY 17

This morning we’ll venture into gold mining territory as we hike up the Carate River to one of the most beautiful waterfalls we've ever seen. En route, we’ll see local hotspots for monkeys and other wildlife. The hike will leave us at the famous Luna Lodge, where we will enjoy the breathtaking property, pool, cocktails and a well earned lunch! You'll have the afternoon free to hang at the Laguna Vista or stick around Luna and enjoy a state of the art massage!
Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner + yoga

DAY 5 // WEDNESDAY // JANUARY 18

This day is all about you! Hop in the collectivo with us as we make our way to the other side of the Osa to the town of Matapalo where you can surf, hike, relax on the beach, and/or waterfall repel! There's a funky local food spot we like to visit for lunch, which happens to be one of the very favorite afternoons of the whole trip. Would you rather chill at the lodge this day? No problem! Grab a good book and hang by the pool or head to the beach for a relaxation day all about you!

Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 6 // THURSDAY // JANUARY 19

What’s your pleasure? You’re free to enjoy a day at the beach, take a nearby hike with your GAL or visit the famous Corcovado National Park. We highly recommend taking the opportunity to explore the Corcovado National Park! The park is located between the ocean and mountains, which has created a natural corridor that attracts abundant wildlife. You'll realize quickly why it was called “the most biologically intense place on earth” by National Geographic Magazine! It’s home to wildcats like pumas and jaguars, as well as peccaries, tapirs. This hike is lead by a knowledgable local guide and costs $70 USD per person (this includes the park entrance fee). No matter what you choose to do in the morning, you'll have the afternoon free at the lodge to more of whatever you want!
Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7 // FRIDAY // JANUARY 20

Save the best for last! This may be our last day on the Osa, but it’s one of our favorites. We will kick off the day with an incredible boat trip to visit an animal refuge on the Golfo Dulce. The Golfo Dulce is one of the deepest tropical fjords in the world and is home to three species of dolphins, whale-sharks, turtles and more! You’ll see wildlife like you’ve never seen before, and experience the most authentic beauty of the Pacific. At the refuge, you can interact with monkeys and see some of the local wildlife up close. Also, you’ll be supporting a good cause as the refuge is there to release injured wildlife or to give a home to those that cannot be released. Later in the afternoon you can try out zip lining)!! Don’t want to zip? Not a problem, enjoy a cold drink by the ocean before we all meet up to catch our domestic flight back to San Jose. Once in San Jose we’ll head to our hotel or stay at the International Airport if your flight departs this day.
Included: Breakfast

DAY 8 // SATURDAY // JANUARY 21

Say your farewells! With us, it’s never goodbye, just "see you later!" We will transfer you to the International Airport. (Remember, there's a departure tax of $29 USD that can be paid in cash or via credit card at the airport.)
